Electric air compressor is the core power source of the braking system for electric trucks and electric buses. Its core function is to continuously generate and provide compressed air that meets pressure standards for the vehicle's air pressure braking system, replacing the air compressor driven by the engine in traditional fuel vehicles, adapting to the power architecture of new energy commercial vehicles without engines, while also considering the reliability, safety, and energy efficiency of the braking system. It is the "aerodynamic heart" of air pressure braking for electric commercial vehicles.
Its specific functions revolve around the full process requirements of pneumatic braking for electric commercial vehicles, and have been adapted to the characteristics of new energy vehicle models. The core is divided into two categories: basic gas supply function and extended support function adapted to new energy, as follows:
1、 Basic core gas supply function (meeting the basic operation of the braking system)
Generate compressed air
By driving the air compressor pump head with an electric motor, the external atmospheric pressure air is compressed into high-pressure compressed air (the commonly used working pressure for electric commercial vehicles is 8-10 bar), providing power for all pneumatic braking related components. Without this compressed air, the vehicle's pneumatic braking system will completely fail.
Stabilize system air pressure
Cooperate with the vehicle's air storage cylinder and pressure switch/pressure sensor to achieve constant pressure control: when the air pressure inside the air storage cylinder is lower than the set lower limit (such as 7.5 bar), the air compressor automatically starts to supply air; When the air pressure reaches the set upper limit (such as 9.5 bar), the air compressor automatically stops. Always ensure that the air pressure of the braking system is within the safe working range, to avoid brake force attenuation caused by insufficient air pressure, or pipeline bursting and component damage caused by excessive air pressure.
Provide energy for all pressure braking components
The generated compressed air not only supplies energy to the brake chamber and brake valve of the service brake (foot brake), but also provides power to the key components of the electric commercial vehicle air pressure brake, including parking brake (handbrake, mostly spring brake chamber, compressed air is used to release parking), auxiliary braking (such as exhaust brake, air pressure control of retarder), pressure regulation/direction change of brake pipeline, trailer braking (trailer braking system when towing trailer), etc. It is the only source of power for all air pressure braking related actions.
