Electric Water Valve for Automotive Thermal Management Systems

The electric water valve serves as the "intelligent control hub" in modern automotive thermal management systems. By precisely regulating the flow direction and rate of coolant, it maintains the vehicle's thermal balance under various operating conditions.

Within the engine cooling circuit, the electric water valve functions as a critical control node connecting components such as the engine, radiator, and heater core. Its primary task is to accurately adjust coolant paths and flow rates based on real-time vehicle operating conditions. The control logic follows a complete closed-loop process: "signal acquisition - command execution - status feedback."

Upon vehicle startup, components including the engine temperature sensor and air conditioning control unit act as "sensing terminals," transmitting real-time data—such as cylinder temperature, ambient temperature, and set temperature—to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). After algorithm processing, the ECU sends electrical control commands to the water valve, precisely specifying either the target opening degree (supporting 0% to 100% stepless regulation) or the corresponding path switching.

The rapid response capability of electric water valves relies on their integrated drive mechanisms.

Currently, two mainstream actuation methods are widely adopted:

  • 1. Solenoid Actuation: Utilizes electromagnetic fields to drive the valve spool rapidly, achieving millisecond-level response times, making it suitable for applications requiring frequent on/off switching or fast path changes.
  • 2. Motor Actuation: Employs a DC motor combined with a precision gear transmission system to achieve rotational control. This enables high-precision opening adjustment (control accuracy up to ±1%), ideal for operating conditions demanding stable flow regulation.

Electric water valves developed by Nanfeng Group adopt the "DC motor + gearbox + position sensor" solution, achieving precise valve rotation control and flow regulation. The position sensor provides corresponding voltage feedback based on the valve's rotation angle, ensuring accuracy and repeatability in closed-loop control.

The product series offers port diameters ranging from 16 mm to 25 mm, with connecting pipe sizes customizable according to customer requirements. Specifically, the 25 mm diameter model supports flow control ranging from 5 L/min to 100 L/min, meeting diverse thermal management system demands.

In new energy vehicle thermal management systems, electric water valves enable automated connection, cutoff, direction switching, and proportional regulation of coolant across various circuits through electronic control signals. The standard three-way water valve integrates the valve body, actuator, and bracket into a compact assembly. It utilizes a ball valve structure that switches water paths through rotation, with a travel angle of 90°, supporting both proportional adjustment and mode switching.

The valve series offers the following core advantages:

  • 1. Excellent sealing performance with minimal leakage rate
  • 2. High regulation accuracy with linear control characteristics
  • 3. Fast response speed with precise execution
  • 4. Long service life suitable for high-frequency switching applications
  • 5. Pressure and corrosion resistance adaptable to complex media environments
  • 6. Low power consumption with energy-saving features
  • 7. High waterproof rating suitable for demanding automotive operating conditions
