EV Coolant Heater Description
The thin‑film heater is an advanced high voltage coolant heater designed specifically as a heater for electric vehicles. Manufactured using physical vapor deposition and other semiconductor‑derived processes, it precisely deposits multiple functional layers onto an ultra‑thin substrate, creating a highly efficient resistive heating element with excellent uniformity and durability. It offers rapid thermal response, reaching target temperature within seconds.
Compared with conventional PTC heaters, thin‑film technology offers clear superiority. PTC heaters inherently lose power as resistance increases with temperature, leading to reduced output and wasted energy. In contrast, thin‑film heaters maintain a stable efficiency of 96–97% across a wide operating range. They enable precise power regulation via PWM and generate no inrush current at startup, protecting sensitive electronics. Their most compelling advantage is seamless compatibility with high‑voltage platforms: they support 400V to 1000V, far exceeding the limit of PTC units, which is essential for 800V architectures. Moreover, they are lead‑free and rare‑earth‑free, and their cost is now on par with PTC. This ensures consistent performance under varying loads.
In practical use, this device acts as a battery coolant heater, keeping the battery pack at 20–45 °C to preserve range and lifespan. As an EV liquid heater, it rapidly warms the cabin and defogs windows in cold conditions. It also serves as a pre‑heater for cold starts.
